The cyber security agency has issued an alert regarding a new Android malware (virus) Damn. This malware is targeting Android phones and hacks call records, phone numbers, past phone activities and camera sensitive data.

Worryingly, the malware is also capable of bypassing anti-virus programs and deploying ransomware on targeted devices. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In has alerted about the new mobile virus. The advisory issued by the central agency said that once it reaches the Android phone, the malware tries to escape the security checks of the phone and after being successful in this, it is used in the mobile to steal sensitive data. Tries to get permission to know activities and call records etc. It states that 'Damn' is capable of recording phone calls, hacking contact list, accessing camera, changing device's password, taking screenshots, stealing SMS, downloading files, uploading etc. CERT-In said in its advisory that users need to be cautious and careful with websites with short URLs. As per the alert, be careful with URLs like 'Bitly' and 'Tinural' hyperlinks. Users have been advised to thoroughly check the complete domain of the website they are visiting. Avoid clicking on any unknown link. It has advised not to download anti virus and anti spyware software and to be cautious about receiving messages from phone numbers with suspicious numbers.
